What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a completely natural – and rather pleasant!! – human state. We move in and out different states of consciousness every day and often experience multiple trance states every day.

For example, have you been driving and suddenly realised you can’t remember the last few minutes driving home? Your conscious mind was tuned out, thinking and focusing on something else, and your subconscious mind took over to ensure you remained aware and alert on the road. That is a natural trance state.

What is the difference between the conscious and subconscious minds?

Your conscious and subconscious minds work together in unison. Consider the conscious mind like the tool used to conduct day to day activities (planning for the upcoming presentation at work, what to cook for dinner, etc) and our subconscious minds as the hub of who we are, the hub of where our experiences, memories and beliefs are stored.

As such, during hypnosis, we tap into the subconscious parts of our minds to facilitate change. We do this through directed positive suggestions that are solely in relation to your goal and what you have said you wish to achieve.

Myths and Misconceptions

There are many misconceptions about what hypnosis is and isn’t. During the first session, we will explore the process in more detail and will only commence when you feel comfortable. Most people find the experience very relaxing and invigorating. It is however important to remember the following key points:

During Hypnosis, you are in a state of inner awareness and focused concentration. Throughout this process:

  • You are conscious
  • You can hear me
  • You remain in control
  • I cannot make you do anything you do not want to do
  • You will always come out of hypnosis

Every session is tailor made specifically to you. We only work on issues you want to work on, and we only work towards goals you want to achieve. There are no ‘shoulds’; only a focus on your desired area of change.

Depending on your presenting issue, a session will include a combination of Hypnotherapy and NLP, Hypnotherapy and Coaching, or just Hypnotherapy itself. Sessions are conducted in person or online.
